Artist Statement:

Being neutral is far worse than choosing a side, whether popular or not, especially when it come to climate change.  I created this piece, "Reality Check," to show how darkness will eventually overtake the light.  Forest fires are drastically increasing, burning away the life around us. This piece depicts a forest fire in action, with only one fireman, portraying the small community that is truly helping the cause.

Curator Science Comment:

WILDFIRES.  As part of the climate crisis, wildfires are increasing around the globe, throughout the year, in atypical locations, with greater areas burned, greater intensity, and more rapid development.  Wildfires have multiple destructive effects, as they increase atmospheric CO2, add pollutants to the atmosphere, destroy property, lead to mudslides,  and kill humans, plants, and animals.  A recent megafire in Australia killed an estimated 1 billion animals.
