Artist Statement:

For this piece, I wanted to focus on how we are destroying our planet. As we continue to cause global warming, the ice caps will continue to melt, destroying this beautiful planet that we call home. I wanted to use ice to melt away at my paint every time I put It down. It would force me to be fighting against the damage it caused throughout my process, just like how we are fighting against the damage we cause to our planet. However, the ice did not mess up my painting as much I originally hoped. Instead of fighting again the damage I was forced to be more of a contributor and make it more opponent. As consumers in late-stage capitalism, we are constantly fighting to find ways to fix these growing issues, yet most of our efforts have no effect on the real issues. Even worse, companies take advantage of our attempts as they continue polluting for their own benefit. Such as not buying plastic doesn’t matter when they just through out what they don’t sell. Though we may not know the damages we cause, we are all pawns in this society that continues to kill our planet. Though my painting changed through the process, it allowed me to consider more about the true root of our issues.
