GLOBAL WARMING. As atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs) increase, the result is increasing global mean temperature. This temperature is now 1.2C above the pre-industrial mean. The IPCC reported in 2018, that to prevent climate catastrophe, global GHG emissions must be cut 45% by 2030, and the world must reach net zero emissions by 2050. If the world does not act on GHG emissions reductions, the global mean temperature could reach 5-7C above the pre-industrial mean by 2100, incompatible with human civilization as we know it. –A.
